Baking Bread and Other Frugal Accomplishments

Last week was vacation time for us.  The Husband took a few extra days off and only worked Monday and Friday, so we just took it easy. Even with all the game playing, movie watching and reading I still came up with a few frugal items to share.

I pulled out my new Bosch mixer and whipped up a batch of 4 1.5 lb. loaves of whole wheat sandwich bread. Awesome! My old mixer could only handle about 2 lbs. of dough.  Meaning if I wanted to exclusively eat homemade bread I’d have to make it EVERYDAY. That’s how much my family would eat. They eat much more of the homemade stuff than the store bought stuff.  The Bosch can handle up to 15 lbs. of dough, but I need more bread pans before I attempt that much. I tried a new-to-me bread recipe and haven’t decided if I love it or not.  I have to wait for the peeps to eat all of these loaves before I try again. So much fun.

The Husband received several new shirts for Christmas that were a traditional fit and he likes the tailored fit, so I pulled out the sewing machine and altered four shirts for him.

Ordered another free year for my Better Homes and Gardens subscription through Value Mags. I checked my last issue and with this new freebie my subscription is paid up until November 2018 and I haven’t spent a cent for a single issue.

Visited the Dollar Store on a whim and rediscovered all the great treasures it has to offer.  I’d forgotten some of the deals you can find there.  I’ve been needing several items for repairs and projects around the house, but because they seemed so expensive at the Walmart I put purchasing them off until after the holidays.  I found several things that will work perfectly at the Dollar Store (hello super glue!) and spent much less.

I struggle a little with depression during the colder months.  So, I came up with a plan to avoid going on medication this year.  More scriptures, exercise and spending time outside. Plus less sugar in my diet and just generally taking better care of myself.  So far so good.

How about you? Did you accomplish anything frugal this week?
